LGBT Photographer Nashville

Meet Your queer, neurodivergent, cat-loving, photographer friend

celebrating and affirming you, just the way you are.

I'm Emily!

(she/her)

I am a queer photographer based in Nashville, TN, whose work focuses on expanding visibility and documenting community. I aim to capture authenticity, fluidity, resilience, style, and the complexities of the human experience. I am inspired by the queer individuals in my life and my community — amplifying their voices through portraiture is an honor.

Growing up as the middle child of three queer kids in a politically liberal but observantly Jewish family in Fort Worth, Texas, gave me a unique connection to queerness and a bond to my siblings that stems from building your identity in an environment that doesn’t seem to “fit” who you and your family are. My journey in photography has allowed me to connect with my community in a creative and personal way that has been life changing.

Connection with your photographer (that's me!)

Connection with yourself (and/or those you love)

Connection with others when they resonate with or feel inspired by your photos

No matter one's identity, I'm drawn to authenticity, sense of expression, and energies—all of which I love working off of during a shoot. Connection is a big driver in my photo work, and this happens through our process in three ways:

Driven by connection

FUN FACTS

about Emily April Allen

I have three cats and I love talking about them! I feel most at peace with a cat sleeping on me.

The most amusing award I've received is "Best Attitude" in my high school dance class (I didn't have the skill, but I was very enthusiastic!)

I have a passion for vintage clothing and once had my own vintage line in a local Nashville shop!

I'm passionate about bisexual visibility. I'm in a straight-passing marriage and celebrating my queer identity is very important to me!

Before I found photography, playing piano was my form of creative expression. I haven't played in years, but my love of piano is still a part of me.
