LGBT Photographer in Nashville

GET all THE Details

I understand that some folks may be nervous or feel awkward getting their photos taken, which is why I intentionally approach my sessions in a casual, go-with-the-flow way.

Being neurodivergent (I have OCD), I have a lot of patience for adults and children alike. I understand if you need a second to regroup or if you have specific needs/requests and will do my best to keep those in mind to make you feel comfortable. You have agency over your entire shoot and I will follow your lead if you need to pivot.

I have worked with people of many different identities and backgrounds and have learned from those folks and experiences. I am open to feedback and am always looking to improve my process and how I can be more aware of the needs of my clients, especially my queer and trans clients who claim identities that are different than mine.

My approach:

Here's what to expect:

01

Reach out.

02
03

It all starts by reaching out! You can contact me by either filling out my contact form, or emailing me at emilyaprilallen@gmail.com. If you're a potential wedding client, I like to schedule a consult call or meeting to ensure I'm a great fit for you!

Feel good!

My hope is that the experience of the session is just as fun as viewing the photos when they're delivered! My goal is always for you to leave your session feeling empowered and energized in your own skin.

Share ideas.

No matter what type of shoot you book, you'll get to share your ideas and preferences beforehand. I can help come up with location ideas based on your vision, too. This is also when you can share any accessibility needs or other concerns you'd like me to be aware of. If you just want to get together and leave all of the vibes up to the energy of the day, I'm all about that, too!

"From Trans Visibility Day to yearly photos to document my gender transition, I have always felt incredibly comfortable with Emily behind the camera."

"I highly recommend her, especially if you are queer or are a long time Nashvillian. Her photography — especially portraiture — is top quality. I would recommend Emily to anyone in a heartbeat!" - August

"Our photos were stunning, intimate, and perfectly captured our relationship. "

"As a chronically camera-shy individual, I have been very nervous about entering my ~bridal era~ & having attention/cameras on me. Our engagement session was so laid back and personal. Emily is fantastic at both fly-on-the-wall photography AND directing/instructing posed photos, and I felt so comfortable under her eye. - Katie

"As two queer and trans people, we felt seen and safe with her. "

"Emily provided SUCH a safe, warm energy when she took our engagement photos. She played fun music, asked us questions about ourselves, and truly let us guide the energy of the shoot. Emily was game for our fun ideas and got us out of our comfort zone with her own. I’ll never forget how she had us jog through the park to catch every last bit of golden hour, or her laying down on a wet boat dock to get the exact right angle for a photo. I highly recommend her work to anyone who wants to feel like an art piece!" - CD

"Emily clearly loves what she does, and has a knack for making even the most photo-averse person feel comfortable and even beautiful. I was so relaxed in front of her lens"

"When my team needed a refresh on our headshots, we were lucky to call up on Emily April Allen. I was so relaxed in front of her lens, and I absolutely love the photos she took of me. The group shot of our team is incredible, too!" - Susannah

"This was our very first time being photographed as a couple so we had no idea what to expect, we were blown away by beautiful images."

"Emily is amazing! My girlfriend, Mandy, and I got to do a photo shoot with her for a local organization. Emily was so welcoming. She had a group of ladies with very different styles and did so well taking fun pictures! We walked in as strangers and yet she made us feel comfortable, and had us laughing the entire time." - Amanda
